LOCATION: State of Khartoum, suburb of DAR EL SALAAM, Omdurman
START OF ACTIVITY: 2010
GOAL: To ensure the basic health of children with disabilities in Sudan
ORIGIN COMMITMENT: in the suburb of Dar El Salaam (western area of the city of Omdurman) there are nearly 700,000 inhabitants, the majority of whom are civil war refugees from South Sudan or Darfur. The suburb, which arose in the 1990s, is constantly growing and is made up of houses and makeshift dwellings, without any basic infrastructure or service accessible to the vulnerable population. There are currently no paediatric prevention centres: the nearest hospital with maternal-child care services is located in Khartoum, about 20 km away, the other Health Centres are all private and, for economic reasons, difficult to access to the poorest population.
COMMITMENT DESCRIPTION: In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, a Health Centre has been set up providing basic health services aimed at paediatric age and maternal-child care, as well as a nutritional unit, malaria control and vaccine administration.
